February has turned out to be a busy month for us, so here is an update for you!

We have had some important meetings this month which we are excited to share with you.  Firstly, along with Mencap Cymru we met with Welsh Government and Improvement Cymru to discuss progress of the Paul Ridd Learning Disability Awareness training that we successfully campaigned for just over 2 years ago.  This is now at final stages and the plan is for Tier 1 to be rolled out at the beginning of April.  Work will then begin on the creation of Tiers 2 and 3.  This is in Paul’s name as his legacy.

Our second meeting was regarding the establishment of a Welsh Mortality Review, which is something that we have been requesting for a long time.  A mortality review will help us understand the key issues that we still need to address to ensure a long healthy lifespan for people with a learning disability.

At the end of last week, Jayne along with support from Sara Pickard from Mencap Cymru, presented (virtually) Paul’s Story to over 200 first year nursing students from Bangor University.  This is the first time we have shared Paul’s Story there so we were delighted to be invited.  It is so important to us to introduce what happened to Paul to people at the beginning of their career as this can make a real difference in their practice.

Thank you for all your ongoing support.

From everyone at the Paul Ridd Foundation
