December 2024 update

We hope that you had a good Christmas!

At the beginning of December, we continued our promotion of the Health Profile in Powys Teaching Health Board, at Brecon library.  We were joined by the liaison nurses, Beth from Improvement Cymru, Matt from Welsh Ambulance and representatives from the Healthy Lives group.  Great discussions around the Health Profile were had and we also spoke about the importance of an Annual Health Check.  Please use the QR code below to download a copy. We look forward to visiting University Hospital Wales, Cardiff in the New Year, which will mean we have visited every health board on our Health Profile promotion tour!

Continuing the theme of the Annual Health Check, we had a great meeting with 2 health professionals from Swansea Bay who are running a project on the AHC over the next few months.  We are delighted to be working with them and look forward to seeing the results of all the hard work that is going into this. Quality annual health checks save lives, and we want to see the end of the “tick box exercise” that some health checks sadly turn into.  If you have received or if you have taken a loved one for an AHC in Swansea Bay, over the past few months we would love to hear your stories both good and bad, so please do send us an email.

We had a great catch up with Kate Young at Wrexham University to organise dates for us to share Paul’s Story at the University from next year.  We have worked with Kate before, when she was in Mencap North Wales, so it was great to chat to her again.  We are so delighted to now be sharing Paul’s Story with both Bangor and Wrexham University in North Wales!

In the Spring we will be working alongside Your Voice Advocacy in Swansea Medical School for a day on communication with medical students.  It was great to meet up with them on their last day before Christmas break to talk about and start to plan the day and we are so looking forward to it!

Looking back over our calendar for the year it is great to see all we have achieved.  We have taught 14 sessions at Universities across Wales and spoken to over 1200 students.  We have visited 6 out of the 7 Health Boards promoting the Health Profile; been on a demonstration with the Stolen Lives campaign https://stolenlives.blog/ ; worked with the wonderful Paul Harris to update our Paul’s Story presentation; had lots of meetings with groups, organisations and health professionals sharing our work and making a difference, and already in the diary for next year we have booked in 6 teaching sessions across Wales!

Thank you for your support this year and we wish you all a very happy and healthy 2025!
