First of all, apologies for January’s update being so late, but better late than never!
We started the year hopeful of receiving some funding from an organisation that supports small charities but sadly this was not to be. We are planning some fund-raising, of which more in due course, but we are also asking if you know of any companies or funding organisations that can help us, please do get in touch, we will be so grateful.
On a more positive note, we carried out our first training session with Wrexham University, which we were delighted to do. We have several more sessions booked in with them over the next few months, covering all genres of nursing and also speech and language students. We received some wonderful feedback which is always a joy to read!
We spent a great afternoon with members of Your Voice Advocacy in Swansea, as we are working together in Swansea Medical School in February. We went through our presentations and had great discussions about the significance of this work, sharing the importance of good communication with medical students. We are so happy to be working alongside such a great bunch of people, doing such vital work.
On January 23rd, it was the 16th anniversary of Paul’s death. We marked the occasion by sharing all that we have achieved, in his name, since his avoidable death. You would have received this by email, but if you missed it, and would like to receive it again, please let me know. It was good to think about the positive changes, and the real difference our work has made.
We also met with representatives from Welsh Government during the month to discuss many areas around the challenges that people with learning disabilities still face when accessing healthcare. The launch of the second tier of the Paul Ridd learning disability awareness training has also taken place, so please if you are working within the NHS in Wales, can you have a look out for it and let us know what you think!
We ended the month with our quarterly Trustee meeting sharing our plans for the year. We are very grateful to Catherine and Dawn for their continued help and support, thank you!
