We started off the month with a day in Swansea Medical School, working alongside Your Voice Advocacy, sharing learning disability awareness with over 120 second year medical students.   We had some great conversations and questions asked during the breakout sessions, showing that this was a really important day for the students.  We look forward to continuing working with the Medical School in the near future. Thank you to Dr Ruth Dare for inviting us!

Mid-month, we were invited to speak in Llandudno at an event called My Voice My Life, organised by Public Health Wales on safeguarding for vulnerable adults.  It was an excellent day with some fantastic speakers on a range of topics, some of which were very challenging, especially watching the videos on restrictive practice. It also gave us a great opportunity to network with people from lots of different areas. The highlight of the day was definitely the Sing and Sign choir from Conwy Connect, they had the whole room singing along!

Last year we carried out a number of roadshow events promoting the use of the health profile for adults with a learning disability, alongside Beth from Improvement Cymru at every health board in Wales, and this month was our final event, in University Hospital Wales in Cardiff.  We were joined by members of the acute liaison team, and Stacey from Cardiff People First and we had some really great conversations with staff members about this vital document. We also had a brief interlude outside in the cold as there was a fire alarm which luckily turned out to be a practice one!

We had a meeting with Health Education and Improvement Wales, about the roll out of the second tier of the Paul Ridd learning Disability Awareness training.   This will be for those healthcare professionals who work more closely with people with a learning disability, although this tier will not be mandatory.  We have also seen a copy of the booklet that has been produced of tier one of the training which is for social care workers and those in the NHS that do not have access to a computer.  We are thrilled that this training is now extended to social care as there has been such a demand for it outside of secondary care, which is such a legacy to Paul.

Finally at the end of the month we spoke online with over 80 students, from all genres of nursing, at Bangor University.  It was a really great teaching session, and we had some wonderful feedback from the students.  We are so grateful to be given this opportunity to speak with students from all over Wales!

Thank you for all your ongoing support.
